With the launch of Esporta’s latest health and racquets club in Norfolk comes a new approach in the design and layout of its fitness arena.
Life Fitness has been working in partnership with Esporta to develop the exercise environment in such a way that it offers variety and progression both in terms of programming and entertainment.
Mark Talley, Group Health and Fitness Manager for Esporta, explains: "Over the last couple of years, we have concentrated a great deal on our service related strategy, focusing particularly on the induction process and usage behaviour. We wanted our facilities to complement this approach and have evolved the gym environment accordingly."
Esporta has chosen to move away from the traditional, regimented banks of equipment in favour of a more informal look and feel, which incorporates different exercise zones. Arron Williams, Life Fitness Academy Manager, says: "We have spent a lot of time researching the exercise experience and investigating how the environment shapes behaviour.
Esporta have used our findings to devise this new model, which looks great visually and is appealing to users of all abilities. It also promotes exercise adherence."
The 130 station gym includes Life Fitness Treadmills; Upright and Recumbent Lifecycles; Cross-Trainers and Concept2 Rowing Machines together with strength products from the Pro2SE and Signature Series; Hammer MTS (Motion Technology Selectorised); Hammer Ground Base; Dual Adjustable Pulleys; Cable Motion machines and Hammer free weights.
Mark continues: "One of our main priorities was to ensure that there was plenty of diversity to cater for the huge range of different needs and preferences.
We know that members like to experiment during their workouts and also learn from watching other members, so we have mixed up CV and resistance machines, as well as positioning basic equipment suitable for beginners and de-conditioned exercisers next to more advanced machines which have greater exercise options and programming capabilities."
This new layout also provides a comprehensive choice of entertainment options ranging from standard CV equipment to a small Cardio Theatre area with a large plasma screen, through to machines with fully integrated personal LCD screens.
Mark adds: "We are constantly evaluating member feedback and looking at ways to improve the facilities and services we offer to our members. The response to the concept we have introduced in Norwich has been very positive and will be used to further develop and evolve the fitness arena in the future."
The £12m development, which opened at the beginning of July, features two swimming pools plus children's pool, six indoor and five outdoor tennis courts, fitness arena, air conditioned studio, dedicated group cycling studio, badminton courts, sauna, steam room, bar, brassiere and crèche.
